Some of the first things I learned about in my theology classes during college and seminary were the modes in which God reveals God’s self to humanity. One of those modes was known as General Revelation. Distinct from Special Revelation, which is where God determines a specific means such as Jesus and Scripture to teach us things about God, General Revelation is God showing us God through natural means, such as nature, science, philosophy and reasoning.
I believe vaccines, like the space program, the Genome Project, and Arvo Pärt’s Spiegel im Spiegel are gifts from God. They are no less miraculous than walking on water or rising from the dead, because they teach us that life doesn’t have to be what we think it has to be. They reveal God to us in ways we previously did not know God.
