The City of Waco recently announced water restrictions due to what they are deeming “drought conditions and the continuance of extreme hot weather”, whatever that means.
Look, I’m not denying that drought is a real thing. It’s just not as big of a deal as they are making it out to be. It’s basically a brief period with mildly dry conditions. We have those all the time, and restricting the use of water on our yards isn’t going to stop it. I think they are being a little dramatic.
Now, I fully understand that some people are more susceptible to drought and hot weather than others– The elderly, the parched, those with dry skin and brittle hair. I think we should protect them and allow them to conserve water as much as is helpful for them. However, I don’t suffer from any of those conditions and will probably survive the drought and hot weather, so I’m not going to participate in the Drought Theater that the city is putting us all through. But don’t get me wrong, I respect people’s decisions to do what they feel is right for them.
Good people can have different opinions about this. We shouldn’t allow those differences to come between us.
Also, if we don’t use as much water, people in the water department will LOSE THEIR JOBS and will have a more difficult time giving money to the oil executives who are price-gouging gas right now. Our economy can’t suffer!
We’ve been here before, and we know how these incompetent city officials work: First they tell us to not water our yards on Tuesdays and Fridays. Then, they tell us not to water our yards AT ALL. Then (after it rains some), they tell us we can water our yards again. They can’t make up their minds! It’s like they are making it up as they go just to make us their little sheep.
So you can go about your “water conservation” if it makes you feel better. But those of us who are really tuned into things, who got thirsty once and lived through it, we aren’t participating in your hysteria.
